Waiting
Has anyone ever told you to “be patient” or “just wait a minute”? It can be frustrating, especially when you're in a hurry. With all the technology there is, it's easy to expect things to happen right away. The truth is, sometimes waiting is best or just something you have to do.
Choosing to Wait: Even though waiting can be frustrating, it can also be a good thing. There are times when you might make the wise choice to wait.
- Waiting can help you learn self-control. Have you ever spent money on something and regretted it the next day? Or gotten mad at a friend and sent an angry text without thinking? Sometimes we react without thinking about what might happen next. This can lead to saying or doing things you might regret later.
- Waiting can help you to pause and think before reacting. This can help you make better choices. It can also help you feel more in control of your reactions. The more you practice this, the easier it can be to handle things that don't go your way.

Required to Wait: Some things take time. No matter how much we would like them to happen right away, they don’t. You don't always have a choice, and no amount of wishing or worrying will make the time go by faster. Having patience during those times is important. During those difficult times, here are some things to remember:
- Waiting can make something you're looking forward to even better. You might appreciate it more when it finally happens.
- Waiting can be helpful when you're nervous about something. It gives you more time to prepare and feel ready for what's coming.
- Waiting can be a time to gather support. If what you are waiting for could bring up challenging emotions, the waiting time could give you a chance to contact the supportive people in your life so they are ready to stand by you when you need to face the situation.
Whether you are choosing to wait or are required to wait, waiting gives you a chance to slow down. Life gets busy, and you don't always make time to relax. Use the waiting time to take a break. Intentionally slow down your mind, body, and emotions. Allow yourself to relax and reset.
