Real relationships and friendships require a deeper bond.

Boundaries

Establishing boundaries is an essential life skill. Having personal boundaries is knowing why you do what you do and then communicating that to others. A boundary is like a line drawn in the sand that you will not cross. It's knowing what you will and what you will not do because you have a personal value that you are protecting.

It's so important to create your boundaries BEFORE you're in a situation.

  1. Set your limits. Identify what's healthy for you.
  2. Take a stand, be firm. Once you establish a boundary stick to it.
  3. Communicate your boundaries clearly. This can be done in a way that is kind but firm. If you communicate your boundaries right away when entering a relationship, there will be less confusion and fewer hurt feelings.
  4. Pay attention to your feelings. If you feel uncomfortable, pause. Take some time to refocus on what is important to you. Ask yourself if the current situation reflects your values. If you need help or guidance, talk with a trusted adult.

"Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves, even when we risk disappointing others."
