The Voices Make It Worse
Question
I've been being told to go crawl in a hole and die that I'm to ugly there's no point to living looking like I do. The voices in my head just make it worse. They don't build me up, they tear me down 'til I'm nothing. I have short term memories and photographic memories. It hurts to think that no one believes me when I tell them the voices started when I was 5. I was riding my bike and a car swerved and hit me. I stopped breathing for a couple of minutes is what the doctors said. Ever since then, the voices won't leave me alone.
Counselor response
We are really glad that you decided to reach out and talk with us. It sounds like there are some pretty scary things going on. Your mind is a very strong tool and sometimes the things we hear we start to believe. It’s easy to allow negative things in our head. But, it is worth talking about for sure and we think it would be really good if you talked with your parents about this. No matter what others say about you, you know you have a point in living. You may not know what your purpose is but you survived a serious accident and are here to talk about your experience.
Do you have a school counselor or counselor outside of school? Does anyone know you hear voices or know about what the kids at school are saying? Again, it is worth talking about so that you get the support and help from staff and your parents.
We are here anytime and hope that you will continue to reach out. Please look at the 99 coping skills list we have to find some ways for you to take your mind off of what is being said and allow your mind to be distracted. 99 Coping Skills
Don’t dig yourself that hole. You are important and you are valuable. Rise above this get the help that you need.
Take care,
