No Motivation Anymore

Question

I have no motivation to do anything anymore. My grandmother just tried to bring me somewhere and I was crying so much that she had to bring me home. I can't even pinpoint a reason as to what is wrong. I hate going to school, no matter what I'm doing. I hate it so much that sometimes I convince myself I'm sick. I've had 13 of 14 allowed absences and I still don't want to go, one more absence and I get held back. I have friends too, I just have no drive to see them. Even the thing I love the most makes me feel disappointed in myself more and I just don't want to do it a lot of the time. I don't know what to do, everyone in my home is very unsupportive. I feel trapped. I also feel invalid with how I'm feeling. Everyone could have it so much worse and I'm here crying over nothing, but I can't stop.

Counselor response

Thank you so much for reaching out. It takes a great deal of courage to be able to tell people how you are feeling. You did a great job. It is difficult to feel emotionally depressed. You are right, it can really sap your energy. Please know that you are not alone.  We are here to help.

Your health is important and your feelings are valid. Depression is a real thing. It sounds like your sadness has been going on for quite some time and is limiting your enjoyment in life. The most important thing you can do right now, is to talk to someone about your feelings. Start that conversation today. Print the email that you wrote to us and show it to an adult that you trust. It’s easy to keep your feelings buried deep inside and just hope they go away. Please don't do this as sometimes the thoughts become more intense. Find the hope and healing that you need.

Consider getting professional help with this. Talk to your school counselor or pediatrician about your feelings. They can help you find the support and treatment that you need to once again find joy in your life.
