Question

I'm having loads of anxiety and thoughts of harming myself, I do not think would actually carry it out. I am so lost and it feels as if it's the only way.

Counselor response

Thanks so much for reaching out to us. It shows a lot of maturity and strength on your part to not only know when you could use some support – but to ask for it too.

Anxiety can be a normal thing to feel when you're going through stressful times. If you are starting to feel that it isn't bearable anymore then it's time to look at getting help and give yourself a break. When anxious feelings get too big your mind might become hyper focused on whatever is causing the anxiety. That's why coping skills are so important to either distract you from the anxiety or help you process it.

Using coping skills is just one of a few very important ways to combat anxiety.

If you feel that your anxiety is ongoing and difficult to manage on your own, it might be a good time to talk with your doctor about how you have been feeling, especially if it is causing you to have thoughts of harming yourself.

We have crisis counselors available to help support you. Please call when your anxiety feels like too much. Talking helps. Please look at this link so you can create a safety plan for the future.

Take care-
