I Get Bullied A Lot

Question

I'm just not feeling up to life anymore. I'm not happy anymore. I get bullied a lot. I don't want to kill myself but I don't want to live.

Counselor response

We are glad you have discovered our website and are reaching out tonight.  We can appreciate the sense of  heaviness you conveyed in your email, especially when it comes to being bullied.   Bullying hurts because we absorb the comments.  There is no shame in that, it is easy to do especially if we are sensitive individuals.  Try working towards a plan where you are not going to let the bullying attack the inner you.

Make a list of all the things you like, and like to do. Understand you are who you decide you are.  When the verbal bullying starts, visualize an emotional suit of armor covering you and the comments sliding right off.  Comments from bullies are just words,  they cannot hurt us unless  we absorb them.  Think instead about your list.  Those things define who you are, not the bully’s comments.

Review our website for articles on bullying, self-esteem and other subjects that interest you.  By doing these types of things, you are standing up for yourselves from the inside out.   Make it an active project to strengthen your inner self, for that is who you truly are, not a bunch of words from a few mean people.

We want you to know we are here for you.  You can also visit with a counselor on the phone 24/7 by dialing 1-800-448-3000.

Sincerely,

Larry – Counselor
