I Don't Want To Take Any Chances

Question

I don't know if I really trust this but I need someone to talk to so I'm going to try it. Hi. I've been feeling really sad recently and harming myself never came to mind but I've done it before and I don't want to take any chances. I'm scared that if I can't calm down, something might happen.

Counselor response

Self-harming in general is important to take seriously, especially when it involves cutting. There are many reasons why people may want to hurt themselves. Things may seem overwhelming to you and cutting could be a way to cope with the hurt and the pain. I encourage you to think about positive ways to cope with stress. Activities like working out, journaling, listening to music, meditation, sports, or reading a book can help you relax and get your mind off these thoughts. Consider talking with a trusted adult about your feelings.

You did a great job reaching out to let us know that you are hurting. We recommend that you keep reaching out; please know that you are not alone. Sometimes just talking about the sadness that you're feeling helps to sort out things. Our counselors are always here if you want to talk.
