I Can't Stop Crying
Question
My ex boyfriend killed himself on Christmas. I can't stop crying and I keep having anxiety attacks. How do I cope?
Counselor response
We are glad you have discovered our website and are reaching out. We can appreciate the shock and overwhelming feelings you conveyed in your email about your ex-boyfriend taking his life. This is always a shocking event, and the fact you had a relationship with him, and it happened during the holiday season, adds to the shock and trauma. It is important that you have support at this time and feel free to express your hurt and grief. Reach out to others, express your feelings. Talk to people such as parents, siblings, friends, clergy, or counselors. You may feel like withdrawing into yourself, yet that often engages a cycle of negative thinking, and creates additional burdens that make healing even more difficult.
We have attached some ways to work through your grief: 4 Ways to Ease Grief.
Be strong, continue to reach out. We want you to know we are here for you.
Sincerely,
Larry – Counselor
