Growing Apart

Question

Hello. So I have been in a relationship for almost a year. I feel like we have been growing apart. We are not talking as much anymore. In the beginning I was really excited to be in this relationship but now I have more and more instances where I wish I was single. Mostly because I just get stressed about it sometimes. But there is no real problems about it. Our personalities clash sometimes. But I'm not a confrontational person at all. So I'm afraid to say anything. I'm just in a weird place.

Counselor response

Sometimes relationships just don't work out. The beginning of all relationships is an exciting time. It can bring fun, laughs and things to look forward to. Once a couple starts to get more comfortable you start to get to know that other person. Conversations get deeper, differences happen and sometimes the fun isn't as fun anymore. That's okay. This is why people date. You date to find the people that you connect with and you also get to know yourself better. You start to see what you like in a partner, what you want in a partner and what you think would be best for you.

It's not worth being stressed about. Do you think it would be best to have a conversation with this person? Maybe they feel the same way. Decide what you want to say to them and practice saying it if you are nervous.

We hope that you are able to talk this through. We are here for you anytime. Let us know how things are going.

Take care,
