Feeling Hopeless
Question
Recently I've been feeling hopeless and what's worse is that I'm not sure why. I have my parents, good grades, friends, etc. but I can't help feeling depressed all the time. Bipolar disorder runs in my family, if that helps.
Counselor response
Feeling depressed or hopeless is something you should discuss with your parents, especially if there is bi-polar disorder in your family. There are many things going positively for you – the good grades, good friends and so fort.
However if you are struggling with a mental health disorder, the best thing you can do is to go have a checkup to see if there is something that is out of your control. If you are taking care of your basic needs of eating healthy food, getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night, and doing a little bit of exercise daily, then a checkup by your family doctor is the next step.
So talk to your parents about setting up an appointment with your doctor to see if there is something to help you with the depression.
Take care and stay safe!
