Question
I'm 16 years old and I've had problems with drinking and doing drugs in the past (mostly just weed and pain pills) but ever since my best friend got arrested it seems like everything is just falling apart. It's been almost 2 years since she got arrested but she was honestly the only family I've ever had. I had back surgery in January and they put me on hydrocodone to help the pain and instead of taking them I usually snort them or smoke them. My friends think I need help. I don't know what to do anymore. I feel lost and alone.

It sounds like your friends really care about you and don’t want to see you get in trouble or get deeper into addiction than you already are. We are glad you are reaching out to talk about this and get some support.
Addiction isa very dangerous thing. You are treading in very deep water when you abuse any substance. One way to get in touch with your issue and to try to figure out if it’s an addiction is to ask yourself, “ Is my problem negatively impacted people who care about me?” If you answer, “YES”, then it is time to admit your problem and get some much needed help. Your friends are good indicators that this has become a problem and they want you to get help. What does that mean?
Help comes in many different ways. You can talk with a trusted about what you are going through. Talk with a parent or school counselor. Talk with your doctor if you can. There are a lot of programs that would allow you to get help for little cost as well. Bottom line is that you have a problem with prescription drugs and the sooner you get help, the better you will feel about you and your situation. Your friend that was arrested would probably testify to this as well. She wouldn’t want you to hurt or struggle.
