Don't Want To Be Sucked Back In

Question

A girl I know is having a really hard time and is reaching out to me. We used to be good friends but she is a bad influence and was not a good friend so I backed away from her. She has no one else but I don't want to be sucked back in. But she also needs someone to talk to.

Counselor response

It’s understandable that you have concerns about this person that is reaching out to you.  Please keep in mind that you don’t have to feel like you have to do anything for her; however, it’s nice that you are trying to help her.  You can try to reach out to her family or a trusted adult who can speak to her about the things she is struggling with such as a teacher, or a school counselor.

You can email or text her the below information in your own words-without having to speak with her or get involved:

“You can reach out for help and get support by contacting a crisis counselor from Your Life Your Voice. They are available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The phone number to call is 1-800-448-3000.  You can also chat or text with a counselor at www.yourlifeyourvoice.org.”

Take care and keep safe,
